Hi,
I am Mr./Coach Terrance Stills. I am a graduate of McNeese State University with a BS in Computer Science. I currently teach at Thurgood Marshall High School where I have been teaching for 17 years. I also attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where my heart will always reside. I was a member of the Internationally known Human Jukebox, the Southern University Marching Band, where I played and was the section leader for the trombone section. At Marshall, I have been teaching primarily AP Calculus and PreCalculus. Over the years at Marshall, I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, College Prep Math, AP Statistics, Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, PreCalculus, PreCalculus PreAP and AP Calculus. I started the Computer Science Program at Marshall two years ago beginning with the Fundamentals of Computer Science. The second year, Computer Science PreAP was added. This year AP Computer Science Principles was added. So here is my current class schedule . . .
1st Period - Conference
2nd Period - PreCalculus PreAP (27 students - 11th/12th Grades)
3rd Period - AP Calculus (13 students - 12th Grade)
4th Period - Fundamentals of Computer Science. (16 students - 9th/10th/11th/12th Grades)
5th Period - Advanced Quantitative Reasoning (AQR). (13 students - 12th Grade)
6th Period - Computer Science PreAP/AP Computer Science Principles. (11 students - 10th/11th/12th Grades)
7th Period - College Prep Math (10 students - 12th Grade)
Of course, this year is truly going to be a challenge with 7 classes being taught in six periods. But, through it all, I am excited about this year. The AP Computer Science is being taught with Swift. This is where the Apple Coding comes in effect. Next year, the Intro to App Development course will be added.
These are exciting times for Thurgood Marshall High School and I am even more excited that I am in the middle of this great innovation and implementation of computer science on my campus.
